Remember that experiment about not thinking of an elephant? Just substitute coffee for elephant, and you’ve got my morning.
Normally, I would get up, stumble to the bathroom, feed the cats, and perform the most sacred task of the morning–making the coffee. The act of making coffee is like a ritual. For many years, we would grind our coffee beans, but for the past few years, we have become a little lazy and have been grinding the beans at the store.
Even if you don’t grind your own beans, the act of making coffee is a process. Pouring the water in the pot, putting the filter in the bin, adding the coffee, turning the coffee maker on and listening to the coffee go through the filter and into the pot is a rite of passage to adulthood. It is what connects all of those early morning risers. I would often imagine the other groggy morning people up and stumbling around along with me.
Now, I will connect with the green tea makers up at 5 AM. Here’s to a healthier and better life without that nasty caffeine monkey on our backs. Do I sound convincing? Turn away, and don’t think of a teapot…
